栃木県足利市で１９９０年、保育園の女児＝当時（４）＝が誘拐、殺害された事件で無期懲役が確定し、再審請求中に釈放された菅家利和さん（６２）に向け、最高検は１０日、「真犯人と思われない人を起訴、服役させ、大変申し訳ない」と検察庁として初めて謝罪した。伊藤鉄男次長検事が記者会見を開いて述べた。

編集後記

今回は足利事件の続報を取り上げました。検察がこのような形で謝罪をするのは異例とのことですが、菅家さんご本人の前に出向いて謝ったわけじゃないんですね。

菅家さんの弁護士は「礼を失している」と言って怒っているそうです。確かに、世論に向けたパフォーマンスととらえられてもしかたないかも・・・。

それにしても、一度犯人として大きく報じられたら、たとえ無罪が判明した後でもそのイメージをぬぐい去るのは一苦労のようです。

中には心ない手紙を送りつけてくる人もいるらしく、世間の烙印の恐ろしさを感じます。（再審無罪となった元死刑囚の免田栄さんがテレビでそう話しておられました。）

菅家さんが今後、平穏で幸せな生活を送られることをお祈りしたいです。
