成人年齢が18歳に引き下げられるいっぽう、「飲酒や喫煙は20歳で据え置き」というのがちょっとややこしいですね。
実際、飲酒や喫煙の年齢制限を守っている人がどれぐらいいるのか、そこがそもそも疑問ですが。

I welcome this decision. Japanese society has treated young people as a child, even after they graduated from high school. 18 is old enough to be independent and have some receptibilities in the society. However, education is necessary to join the society as an adult, especially about financial issues. They will be able to use a credit card or card loan services.
日本の社会では、高校、いや大学を卒業しても大人としての自覚なしにすごせるような気がしていました。大人（親）の方も、いつまでも子ども扱いをしてしまって、なかなか自立させないですね。ってこれ、親としての自分の反省でもあります。
This article led me to recall when I was at 18 years old. I was a CHILD who are not really interested in politics, economics as well as what was happning in Japan and the world. I might have been a bit different if this amendment had already enacted at that time. This change is really essential for young people to get involved with domestic and foreign affairs, in addition to voting rights. It may take a little time, but realizing to be responsible and having responisibilities are the first step to become adults.
えらそうなことを書いてしまいましたが、私自身も憲法上では「大人」でも、まだ中身は「大人」ではないかも？と思う言動多々あります（反省、、、）。約１５０年も改正されていなかったことに驚きましたが、この改正が良い方向に向かうといいな、と思います。
I like Japan’s decision to lower its age of adulthood to 18. I think it is the right age for kids to start being treated as adults and becoming independent and more responsible for what they do. But I’m glad the minimum legal age for drinking, smoking, and gambling will remain at 20. Starting them at younger ages can harm physical and mental development. As a matter of fact, I think they could wait even a bit longer.
18歳を大人として扱うことには賛成ですが、心身の健康を害する危険性のある飲酒や喫煙、そしてパチンコも含めギャンブルを始めるのはできるだけ遅い方が依存症になる可能性が低いのでは？と思いました。
