Japan’s Prime Minister announced on Monday to dissolve the lower house at the beginning of the extraordinary session this week, while Tokyo’s female governor officially formed a national party to give voters an alternative to the ruling coalition in the upcoming general election.
Yoshihide Kiryu became the first Japanese sprinter to break the 10-second barrier in the men’s 100 meter race, winning an intercollegiate event in 9.98 seconds on Saturday. He was a member of Japan’s silver medal-winning team in the men’s 4-by-100 meter relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Police on Saturday arrested a 35-year-old Filipino man on suspicion of killing a female university student in eastern Japan in 2004. Two other Filipinos, minors at the time of the incident, are likely to be placed on the international wanted list.
