◆ More Japanese workers eyeing job changes, relocation

More Japanese workers (are) eyeing job changes (and) relocation.

◆ the erosion of Japan’s lifetime employment system,

◆ are contributing to a rise in workers,

「contribute to A」は、「Aの一因・原因となる」という意味です。

◆ quitting, changing jobs, or considering doing so.

この部分は、「A, B, or C」=「A、B、またはC」という並列の表現です。

「consider(検討する)」は、タイトルの「eye(考慮する、検討する)」の別の表現です。

「doing so」の「so」は、直前の「quitting, changing jobs(退職や転職)」を指しています。

◆ There are also signs of an exodus from major cities,

タイトルの「relocation(移住)」の言い換え表現です。

◆ with Tokyo’s population dropping

O が「Tokyo’s population(東京の人口)」、C が「dropping(減少する)」です。

I think one positive side effect of the pandemic, more dramatically in the US but also in Japan, has been people gaining new perspectives and walking away from exhausting, unrewarding jobs. Also, overconcentration in Tokyo has been viewed as a problem for years, so the drop in population seems to be good news.

  1. Misha より:

Remote work may have some downsides, but one of the great things is that you don’t have to spend long hours commuting to your physical workplace, often on a packed train. Anyway, it’s nice to have options in work styles, which I hope will help reduce the stress many people suffer from in Japan.
