If the majority of the company embraces flextime and remote work, it’ll no need to hold a big building as a company’s head office in a megacity like Tokyo. Furthermore, if most of the companies would decide that the official language is English, the border -as its workforce- could disappear.

I hope Yahoo Japan’s efforts encourage other companies in Japan to promote diversified ways of working. That’s because it leads to not only hiring talented people regardless of where they live but also enhancing employee’s engagement in their companies.

いつもありがとうございます!旧態依然の我が職場でもリモートワークを導入…働き方の多様性が広まったことは、コロナ禍での良い変化の一つだと思います。

Among digital generations, it is natural movement to change into remote work. I’m sure that the workers for Yahoo would spend their time effectively. On the other hand, many workers for service industries can’t afford it under this pandemic. I can’t thank you enough.

ETさん

I think the number of people who are benefited by such work policies as Yahoo Japan’s is extremely limited. Many others have to go to work on packed commuter trains, even if threatened by Covid-19. For them, remote work is a dream story, to say nothing of commuting by plane.

JNさん

Yahoo is a financially stable company so it is able to adopt flexible remote work and flextime. However, I hope that this will be a great stimulus for the reform of the way we work, rather than begrudging it. Will there be no more job transfers, much less single placements?

自分にも関わりの深い問題だったので、英文もわりとすんなり理解できました。通勤手当に飛行機代も、とまでは言いませんが、「完全在宅勤務」、「転勤なし」は多くの企業で早く」取り入れてほしいです。

Yahoo Japan is very thoughtful and generous. Its new flexible work policies will allow the company to hire more talented, competent people. They will also help its employees get through the pandemic more easily. I hope many other companies follow suit. It must be difficult, especially for small ones, though.

住む場所に関係なく仕事ができれば、雇う側、雇われる側、両方にプラスですね!コロナは色々な意味で人々の生活様式を変えたんだなあとつくづく思います。何はともあれ、Yahoo Japan、太っ腹です!

I feel that IT companies have generous employee benefits, after all. But, I heard that some IT companies in USA, such as Google, recently forced their employees to commute 3 times in a week. I feel interested that some degital companies put importance on face to face communication.

KRさん

I hope this program will encourage more and more people to move to rural areas whose population has been on the decline. But the decrease of commuters may worsen the business performances of railroad companies.

大きな企業は資本があるので変革は容易かもしれないが、中小企業や非正規雇用の労働者はどうなるのだろう…

CKさん

The company’s way brings benefits to not only its workers ,but also others. For example, a rush hour congestion will decrease or the price of land or rental house fee also fall gradually., and it brings about the clean air. I hard ly think of any demerits. Hopefully, I expect other companies follow it.

In Japan, there are a lot to smaller companies that cannot introduce remote work for some reasons. Yahoo Japan will play an important role in Japanese society in that it provides us with a good model to show we can achieve impressive business results even if most of the employees work remotely. It is a good decision to alleviate the concentration of population and functions in Tokyo. The Japanese government had suggested relocation of capital functions, but it hasn’t realized yet. The movement of private companies may encourage it. It might be a few good things of the pandemic.

CKさん

I agree with Yahoo’s decisions. Because it can hire more efficient people from around the nation. I think there are lots of people who had given up applying for the job before, but this company’s new policies are helpful for them.

SUさん

I want to work in this kind of company. Traditional Japanese companies don’t treat their employees so well. Because Yahoo is an IT company,it is need for them to gain talented employees from allover the world.

It’s a good way to work Yahoo! Japan is trying to start. These choices make workers’ life more freely and it doesn’t matter time and place. As for me, my job (musical performances) is to give people the value of “fixed time and place or space”. If someone wants these values, I will visit anywhere…if I can get “generous commuting allowances”.
